The Comeback Kid – Video Sermon by Bishop TD Jakes

Some of the things that God told you when you were a child, you’re just now coming into the place for God to do the things that he prophesied a long time ago. There are some things that God whispered to you in your youth, and all of a sudden the stage is just now set. Certain things had to happen, circumstances had to change, certain people had to die, certain people had to move, certain things had to shift, but God is getting you ready to do something at this stage that he told you long time ago. I set you apart, and I called you for a purpose, and I’m gonna do something in your life. Be not weary in well doing, for you shall reap in due season if you faint not. God has selected you since you were a child, and it looks like he forgot you, but God sent me this morning to tell you, “I have not forgotten you. I have not forgotten you. I had to move some things, I had to change some things, I had to break you, I had to shape you, I had to make you”. But you’re about to step into your season, and things are about to break forth in your life. Are there any Comeback Kids in the house?

So he called Ziba, because Ziba was of the house of Saul. Ziba was not of the house of David, he was of the house of Saul. And sometimes you need the inside track. So he called Ziba and says, is there anyone left of the house of Saul to whom I may show kindness? He didn’t ask anybody in the house of David about the people in the house of Saul, he wants somebody who’s inside the house of Saul. And he says, Ziba, you are part of the house of Saul. Is there anyone left? Don’t worry, I’m going to be nice. I want to show kindness, too. And they said, there’s nobody left except Jonathan’s crippled child, and he’s down in Lo Debar, and he’s lame in both his feet.

Now, that brings me to the only person left that could get in the way of destiny. The only one who was still connected to Saul that would have any legal, arguable right to take the throne. David says, bring him out of Lo Debar. Now, you know Mephibosheth? Mephibosheth is Jonathan’s child, the one that the nurse dropped running trying to get away. He was a five-year-old boy and she had him in her arms, and she dropped him. And the way she dropped him, he fell in such a way that he was lame in both his feet. He would’ve been King, but he was lame in both his feet. He would’ve been a successor to the throne, but he was lame in both his feet. He would’ve been living in the palace that David was living in, but he was lame in both his feet. He would’ve sat on his father’s throne and been a rightful heir, but he was lame in both his feet.

I want to talk to some lame people this morning. I wanna talk to some people that could have been, should have been, would’ve been, but somebody dropped ya. I wanna talk to some people that ended up in a situation that wasn’t even your fault, but somebody you was trusting in dropped you in such a way that they left you damaged for years. Is there anybody in here that knows what it’s like to be damaged for years? To be damaged for years, to be broken for years, to be twisted for years, to be mangled for years, to be crying for years, to be nervous for years, to be traumatized for years. Before they knew what PTSD was, Mephibosheth had post traumatic stress disorder. Emotionally crippled, physically crippled. His strength is crippled, his self-confidence is crippled, his self-esteem is crippled, his ankles are crippled.

And so he moved to Lo Debar. Can I take my time with it? It’s starting to get good to me right now. He moved to Lo Debar, he went down into Lo Debar. He was the right person, but he was in the wrong place. He was the right person, but he was in the wrong place. Lo Debar is a place that means, it has several meanings, one of ’em is no pasture. No pasture. And do you understand, no pasture, there’s no grazing place in Lo Debar. Whereas David had been promised, in the 23rd division of Psalm, that I’ll lead you into green pastures. David has green pastures, Mephibosheth has no pastures. And he moved him into Lo Debar, because Lo Debar also means no communication.

And when you’ve been dropped bad enough, you can’t talk about it. When you’ve been dropped bad enough, you don’t write no books, you don’t tell those stories, you don’t testify about it. When you’ve been dropped bad enough, it will shut your mouth. Have you ever had something to hurt you so bad it shut your mouth? It stopped all communication, all communication. You internalize the pain, you don’t verbalize the pain, you don’t have the words to communicate how you feel. That’s Lo Debar. Trapped in your own head, remembering what you wished you could forget, and there you are in Lo Debar, all dressed up, smelling good, got on them stiletto pumps, but people don’t know you’re walkin’ around in Lo Debar, drivin’ your car in Lo Debar, goin’ into work in Lo Debar, got married in Lo Debar, had a baby in Lo Debar, never told your story, never could, never would, couldn’t find the words to express it or explain it.

What would people think if you told ’em, it’s not my fault I’m like this? It’s not my fault. I wasn’t born wanting to be lame like this, I wasn’t born to be weak like this, I wasn’t born wanting to be incompetent, I wasn’t born wanting to be afraid, I wasn’t born wanting to be weak, I wasn’t born wanting to be a problem, I wasn’t born wanting to be unstable. But somebody dropped me. There’s some people in this room, you would have been a dean or a professor or a bank president or a scholar, But somebody dropped you. You would’ve been leading a team of experts or scientists, or an inventor, or a leader, or a preacher, or a pastor, but somebody dropped you. And when somebody drops you, you get to the point that you don’t say nothin,’ and the silence is as painful as the fall. But today I’m gonna break the silence.

Today I’m going to break the silence, because the silence is brought about by shame, and if I can break the shame, I can break the silence. God is about to do a new thing in your life. God is about to do a new thing in your life, because you’re the right person, but you’re in the wrong place. I’m gonna work this thing till I get it done. Because if I got the right skills, but I’m not in the right place, I won’t be marketable. Not because I’m not gifted, but because there is no demand in my area for what I am skilled in. So I have to be the right person, but I also have to be in the right place. Mephibosheth was the right person, but he was in the wrong place. I tell ya, I’m getting ready to tell somebody, pack your bags, you gotta move. For what God is getting ready to do in your life, you got to get out of Lo Debar.

Touch seven people and tell ’em, get out of Lo Debar. Get out of Lo Debar, get out, get out, get out, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out, get out of Lo Debar, get out of Lo Debar, get out of it, get out of it, get out of it, get out of depression, get out of fear, get out of silence, get out of anxiety, get out of being nervous, get out of being intimidated, get out of being insecure, get out of being afraid, get outta waiting on somebody to discover you, get out of it, get out of it, get out of it, get out of it, get out of it, get get get get get get get get get get get, get out of Lo Debar. Get out!

I want to talk to some people. I know you can’t act like you do, ’cause you got your cute dress on, and you don’t want nobody to know, and you’re trying to catch them tears before they fall down on your face, but for the size you are, you shouldn’t have the problems that you do. But somebody dropped you. And the truth of the matter is, you can’t get out of Lo Debar by yourself. You can’t get out of Lo Debar by yourself. But the good news is, is when David asked Ziba, where is he? He said, he’s in the house of Ammiel, and he’s down in Lo Debar. God sent me here to tell you he knows exactly where you are. My God, I feel like shouting. Everybody else might have forgotten you, but God knows exactly where you are. Everybody else might have thought you’d never be nothing, but God’s kept you on hold for such a time as this.

And the Lord sent me here to tell ya, I got your address, baby. I know where you live. I kept you on hold. I have not forgotten you. Who am I preachin’ to? I need 30 seconds of crazy praise in this house. The Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows, the Lord knows where I am, the Lord knows what I’m goin’ through, the Lord knows what’s up with me, the Lord has not forgotten me. I know I don’t look good, I know I’m not cute, I know I’m not pretty, I know I don’t look like the rest of the family, but God has not forgotten me, he knows where I am.

So when Ziba brought Mephibosheth. Y’all must have made me feel like preaching now. Into the palace, Mephibosheth fell on the floor. And David looked at him, not even recognizing. Said Mephibosheth, see, some folk don’t even recognize you because you’ve been through so much that they don’t even understand how did you end up like this, Mephibosheth? And the man with broken legs said, at your service. And he said to Mephibosheth, I’m going to give you… I’m gonna give you all of your father’s land. I’m going to give you stuff you didn’t even work for, houses you didn’t even build. I’m going to give you a blessing that’s been held in escrow. You’re gonna inherit a blessing. I’m an heir of salvation. I’ve been purchased by God. I’m about to step into something. I know I’m crippled, but I’m about to step into something.

Somebody take a step right now! God said, God said, you’re about to step into a press down, shake it together, running over, supernatural. Who am I? Who am I? See, this is how I know it wasn’t just his feet that was lame. His mentality was lame, ’cause he said, I’m a dead dog. I’m a dead dog. The king’s kid thought he was a dead dog. Now he’s in the right place, but he got the wrong attitude. David said, don’t worry about it, I’ve already made allowance. I know I just gave you something that you’re not qualified for. I know you can’t plow, and you can’t plant, and you can’t rake, and you can’t hoe, but I’m not gonna give you the blessing and not give you the provision for the blessing, I’m gonna raise up people who are strong where you’re weak, so that all you gotta do is sit down at the table.

Oh, good God, I feel like preaching. All you gotta do, whoever I’m preaching to, you ain’t got no work, all you gotta do is… All you gotta do, all you gotta do. I’m going to take the pressure off your feet, I’m gonna take the weight off your ankles, I’m going to send somebody else to work what I gave you, and all you gotta do is sit down at the table.

Now, I’m coming to a close. He said, Mephibosheth, as long as you live, you will always have a seat at my table. And I want you to understand that David’s sons were strong and handsome and virile, and Mephibosheth was crippled and bent and weak. But when he sat down at the table, he looked just like the rest of ’em. God is about to put you in a place where you look just like the rest of ’em. Sit down! Sit down! Sit down! Sit down! He’s gonna set you in a position where your feet don’t even show. And the Lord told me to tell you, he’s got you covered.

Watch this, and I’m gonna close. I had put together my message, and I didn’t have a subject and I said, Lord, you’ll give it to me when you give it to me. And I got up, I got ready to go to bed, and he said, go back, turn your phone on, ’cause I put my notes in my phone, and he said, call it “The Comeback Kid”. I said, why do you want me to call it “The Comeback Kid”? I could see that Mephibosheth was the Comeback Kid, because he made it back to the estate from Lo Debar. But Dr. James, just before I fell asleep, the Holy Ghost said, he ain’t the only comeback kid. He said, David also was a comeback kid.

And see, when you are a comeback kid, you’re drawn to comeback kids. Nobody else woulda had compassion on him, but because David had got a promise when he was a child, because David had been dropped out of his blessing all of his life too, when he got a chance to bless somebody, the driving force behind the blesser is how they had DNA with the one they are trying to bless. You ain’t a good preacher because you’re smart or educated or articulate. You’re only a good preacher because you’re broken. ‘Cause the only person that can restore a broken person is somebody that’s been broken too. Can I get a witness? Can I get a witness up in this place?

I’m gonna close. So one comeback kid reached back and grabbed another comeback kid, and brought him into a blessing. Because David came into the palace and became King, he had received the blessing that he rightfully did not deserve. But because God had given him a promise. God has switched everything around that was necessary for David to make a comeback. So when you see David dancing, when you see David get the Ark of the Covenant and dance out of his clothes, and Michal is lookin’ out the window fussing at him, ’cause she don’t think it’s appropriate for him to act like that. There’s somebody got their hands on their hips lookin’ funny at you right now, but if God let you make a comeback, I don’t care how they look at you funny, you better praise him anyway. If you praise him, hold it. If you praise him right now, God said, I will restore unto you the years that the cankerworm, that the powder worm, and the locusts ate up. If you praise him right now, God said, “I will restore”.
